Thinking about Frankie Ruiz (deceased Portrican Singer)



These days, we are so inclined to patronizing performers especially singers, nonetheless, there are still performers from the previous that we can't ever fail to remember because of the mark that they had instill in our hearts and thoughts so with their contribution to our history. When speaking about Portican singers, they're indeed too many to mention but on top of the list is the late Frankie Ruiz who have created a huge history in the Puerto Rican music industry.

Frankie Ruiz's true name was Jose Antonio Toressola Ruiz. He was born in Paterson, New Jersey. He signed up and took-up his classes in the location and soon opted to migrate from Puerto Rico to USA. While in his youth, he definitely liked singing salsa and grew to be a part of The Charlie Lopez Orchestra, a local band that time. The very first taped music he sung along with the music group is the Salsa Buena. But after his parents separated, he gone to live in Mayag¼ez, Puerto Rico in the year 1976.

His musical profession started in Puerto Rico where he was once an avid fan of the well-known band La Solucion. Rivera, who was the director of the music group, was inquired by Frankie's mother to have him a try but he was given no chance. But destiny had been really playing in his hands as in 1977; there was this one show of the La Solucion in which their lead singer was not capable to appear giving Frankie Ruiz the opportunity to perform in behalf of the lead singer. The presentation were left with positive results which made him a part of the band. Together with the music group, he was able to record another version of Salsa Buena. Frankie live through his career with the band for Three years and throughout that span of time, he was able to tape the his first hit song, the La Rueda.


Right after those years, around 1980, Frankie Ruiz teamed up with Tommy Olivencia and Primerisima Orchestra. What come up with his songs popular to the fanatics is his style which was regarded as Sensual Salsa. Lo Dudo was the band wherein his first main hit was made. After Three years in the music industry, he opted to make solo career and produced his own recording with Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico, TÂș Con, Desnudate Mujer, Mi Libertad and among other bands.


While he visited all through Europe, Latin America and US, he frequently utilizes the phrase "Vaya, Mi China" (Go, My Baby). China means his wife or the mother of his son Frankie Ruiz Jr. Another one is the "¿Que que?" (What, What?) which became his signature. Not Only That, he was named as the papa of salsa "El Papa de la Salsa". He passed away throughout the year 1998 in the month of August after being put in the hospital because of complications resulted from drug use having his last song, "Vuelvo a Nacer". Up until now, he continued to be in the hearts of the people especially those who have the spirit for Salsa.
