Review: Perfect Uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller Free Demos

Many software removal applications on the internet often claim to be free or have a free version..

However beware of Greeks bearing gifts; or in this case application removal software that claims to be free but really isn't. One of the more common software removal programs on the internet is Perfect Uninstaller which indeed does its job very well after you register the product. You will see a "Free Demo Download" button on their main site homepage. Be careful however, a number of bootleg versions and promotional websites exist that show a "Free Download" button!

While the downloading process might indeed be free, in order to take full advantage of the registry clean up tools, needed to remove complex apps like iTunes for instance, you must invest over $39 to "enable" the full package. In fact without registration Perfect Uninstaller's demo unregistered version does not clean registry entires at all. You only find this out at the very end of a 15 min or so process of scanning your PC. Maybe the scanning process is what PU considers to be the demo!

If you are looking for an in depth registry cleaning utility that is free, there are other choices. Revo Uninstaller for instance has a free version that is in fact really free. It will do full registry cleaning at various levels of depth cleaning up latent registry entries.

Perfect Uninstaller does a very good job uninstalling software, we are not knocking it, but its not for free and the demo does not really demonstrate anything special except scanning your PC and letting you know you have to register your copy to actually remove latent registy entries... It's possible that the claims of "Free Download" found on a number of these PU promotional websites are just telling you that they are not charging you for downloading the demo! Very cunning merchandising !

The links below are to the main websites of both software uninstallers... Most importantly... you should judge for yourself:

It contains a number of stealth "helper" applications that must be uninstalled along with the main program. Check this: http://howtouninstallitunes.com for more information. iTunes is just one example of highly complex software being released today by major outlets. With the complexity, can also comes occasional difficulty during installation and also removal due to software conflicts.

The resolution reviewed on the How To Uninstall iTunes web site describes software included along with screen-shots and step by step operating instructions on how to uninstall itunes. iTunes is one of the most problematic applications judging from the number of comments on the original article and from extensive Google research. This is an example of just one website that provides assistance uninstalling iTunes and is a case in point on the changing complexity of monolithic software installations from computer software firms such as Apple, Microsoft, Adobe and others.
